The (Hair) Party of the Year

Last week, Aquis was invited to a party — and not just any party, but a hair party. Naturally, we RVSPed “yes” immediately.

Hosted by the amazingly artistic Brittany Watson Jepsen of The House that Lars Built, the fete was also a workshop, one of a series from around the country hosted by stylist and “braid whisperer” Rubi Jones. Taking a page from her braiding book, she taught the lucky attendees how to master the ever-impossible fishtail and the art of creating long-lasting beach waves. To round out the crafternoon, the crew made hair-inspired piñatas (those scissors?!).

Check out Rubi’s roundup on the event and get some party-planning inspo below. Feeling crafty? Here’s a detailed how-to for making the pinatas!

Goodie bags never go out of style, whether you’re six or … 36. We were lucky to be featured in these great totes by, along with other amazing products and indie beauty zine, Vanity. (Rubi told the ladies her Aquis towel dries her hair in 30 minutes — with minimal frizz. How’s that for a blank canvas?)

A close-up of those adorable decorations, and some snacks from the Sweet Tooth Fairy (anyone watch Cupcake Wars?).

And last but not least, some candids from the hair photobooth. Because no party is completely without one, right? Right.
