A Health Coach’s Low Maintenance Haircare for A High Sweat Life.
Allison Wells works out 6 days a week. As a health coach and personal trainer based in Los Angeles, she has a wellness routine that is goals, goals, goals.
She starts her day with a breakfast of steel cut oats laced with cashews or coconut flakes, frozen raspberries, and cinnamon. Or simply a bowl of matcha tea.
Then, depending on the day of the week, Allison hits the gym for 40 minutes of cardio and 20 minutes of weights.
At night she meets up with her local soccer team for a pickup game. Or she might go to a vinyasa flow yoga class. If she’s feeling a bit low-energy, she’ll take a brisk 30-minute walk around the neighborhood before her vegetarian dinner.
Her only rest day is Saturday, and that’s only because she’s too tired from training clients to exercise.
With such a sweaty lifestyle, Allison must wash her hair every day, right?
“There’s no way that I’m washing my hair every day.” says Allison, “The water in Los Angeles is so drying. On top of that, I don’t have time for hair washing and styling.”
Twice a week – yes, only twice, and always post-workout – she’ll wash her hair with paraben and sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner.
Then she wraps it in an AQUIS towel for about 20 minutes to zap away the excess water. Finally, she sprays her hair with OUAI heat protectant and blow dries it for a maximum of 10 minutes.
Allison’s day can start before 5am and she may have clients until 9pm. So her hair washing days are carefully planned out. Like everything else in her life, her routine must be effective and efficient.
In between washes, Allison keeps her hair looking good by spritzing a little more heat protectant on her dry hair and styling on low heat with a blow dryer.
“I want to look healthy, not greasy.” she explains, “My business revolves around wellness so I need to physically embody it every day."
